TRUE VINES HISTORY
BIRTH OF OUR CHURCH: In the month of April 1993, the Reverend Lawrence W. Wilson, family members and a group of Believers in Christ assembled together in unity to organize a church family. This gathering was held at Leonard’s Temple on the corner of John Young & Old Winter Garden Roads in Orlando, Florida. Along with the Reverend Wilson the founding members were: Mother Annie Evans, Shawn Jackson, Kay Johnson, Mother Susie Walker, Beatrice Wilson, Brenda Wilson-Fleming, Yvonne Wilson, Mother Bessie Butler, Willie Denmark, Gene & Bertha Ford, Rev. L.O. Jenkins, Ruth Francis, Deacon Alexander, Vernice Woods, Mother Lillie McMillan and Patricia Shaw.
BIRTH OF “THE” VINE: On the 2nd & 3rd Sundays in April, services were held at the Orlando Urban League, located at the corner of John Young & W. Colonial Drive in Orlando, Florida. The rental space was $150.00 each Sunday that the space was used for service. In May, 1993 the church moved to the Command Plaza mall on Orange Blossom Trail. During this time the church was called A Place of Worship. We remained at this location while yet searching for more permanent space and a permanent name for our church home. Reverend Wilson asked the members to think about a permanent name for the church. After much thought and careful deliberation by one of the members, Mother Evans, the name True Vine was thought of which she shared with a few other members. After informing Reverend Wilson of the proposed name, He brought the proposed name to the remainder of the church members who agreed to use the name True Vine Missionary Baptist Church as the permanent church name. nial Drive in Orlando, Florida. FINDING A PERMANENT HOME: While continuing to receive God’s blessings, a building was acquired on Rio Grande Avenue. On the first Sunday in December of 1993, A Place of Worship now permanently named, True Vine Missionary Baptist Church moved once again. Once in place the church name was posted outside in a visible location. Under Pastor Wilson’s leadership, True Vine moved spiritually and swiftly to increase under the guidelines and covenant of the Baptist Church. After Pastor Wilson’s ascension in June 2000, Rev. Cedric Pride was called as Interim Shepherd in the spring of 2001. Pastor Pride remained with True Vine for 2 years. In June 2003, Pastor Omega Jenkins was called as Interim Pastor and then installed in January, 2004 as the Pastor of True Vine. In 2006 True Vine Baptist Church found it’s permanent home at 711 Rose Blvd, Orlando, FL 32839.
